Our Future is Certain

I can’t remember when I heard it but from time to time I think of the phrase “God does not learn.”

It’s so profound. God knows everything. There is no surprising Him, no enlightening Him, no catching Him off guard. There is nothing coming up in the “future” He doesn’t know about. Time is a human construct; God is beyond time.

I saw a recent post from Pastor Tony Evans that read: “We can be confident about the future because God has already been there and back. While it’s future to us, it is present to Him.”

How encouraging is that?! God has won the battles in our future. There is no obstacle that defeats Him. I’ve been clinging to these truths as I pivot to a different workstream on my Customer Success team. A large portion of my job has a sales component and this has me LIVING outside my comfort zone EVERYDAY.

My recent meditation verse: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.” (Psalm 28: 7)

I think of this verse as I dial customers. While I can get fearful, I tell myself God is already on the other side of the call and He’s got me; plus even if someone is rude, what can they really do? They can’t decide my eternal fate. Sometimes we give people too much power.

Another great thing about God knowing our future is that despite knowing all the mistakes we will make, He still has a beautiful plan for our lives.

“Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139: 16)

“If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” (Psalm 37: 23-24).

Hopefully these words bring you some courage if you face an uncertain future. Or if you feel there’s something in your present you’ve done to ruin your future, think again. Each day you wake up is confirmation that God has work for you to do as part of His plan.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10).

Wow to be God’s workmanship! We are the results of God’s labor and skill*. God is intentional with us and imparts in us everything we need to serve Him. We just have to step in faith and trust He’s got us.
